Australian Suppliers of Felt Board Stories

Here are a couple of responses to a recent query about felt board stories which came through the yplib list.
Check out the following website which! specialises in providing fair trade, multicultural and educational toys and resources to children aged between 0 and 12 years.
Here is some more valuable feedback on the subject:
Modern Teaching Aids and Kesco catalogues have lots of felt board sets of the 'traditionals' eg 3 Pigs, Billy Goats, Red Riding Hood, as well as lots of felt sets which can be made into numerous stories eg farm set, jungle set, sea creatures.
K&K Creative Toys have lots of felt and magnetic board story kits - though they are very expensive.

I have also found that many of the weekend craft markets have a stall of felt finger puppets, some already made into story kits. I once bought 10 white cockatoos this way. I also use these as a simple template or pattern and make up more for myself.

If you are making up numerous story kits for all the branches, cut up the actual picture books from discards, laminate the pictures and attach velcro for a felt board or magnetic tape for a whiteboard. This way I have all my favourites storyboard ready - Elephant and the Bad Baby, Wombat Stew etc. Finally, it is a great use for all the old broken up wooden puzzle pieces - attach a magnet and you have tractors, trains, animals and people.

I would also recommend Fabric Artist, Donna Toussaint. She made the LLOP Big Book and may be interested in making up kits as long as it is a sizeable order.

News from Cairns

Hi everyone,

I hope you all had a great SRC - we had a lovely time here in Cairns with 4 fun workshops and a party at the end to celebrate! Here are a few photos I hope you enjoy (funny how our 'max' looked just like the puppet!)

Cheers

Welcome to the YPLG blog

Hello everyone!!

After the last YPLG meeting held at SLQ we decided to start up a blog spot.

to leave blog comments you need to be invited as an 'author', the blog can only have 100 authors so if you have a few people wanting to be in the blog from your library you should set up a shared gmail account on behalf of your library and share the password so staff can access it.

with blog entries you can include things such as images, videos and hyperlinks so it's a great way to share information and it's pretty easy to use and navigate through. You can also start up discussions with other people by leaving comments on their blog entry.

Summer Reading Club
